Sprungbrett oder Aufzug? Facebook, YouTube und Instagram kreieren und begraben Stars.

Kurzthese

SPRINGBOARD OR ELEVATOR? FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE AND INSTAGRAM BOTH CREATE AND BURY STARS.

Short thesis:
Facebook promotes videos and everybody is uploading videos. Facebook switches to "live" and everybody is transmitting live. YouTube promotes creators and they instantaneously find an audience. But what happens when the focus shifts? How strong is the dependency of creators, transmitters, and producers?

Description:
Social networks and platforms wield enormous power. If, all of a sudden, the focus is on different content, different producers, and different formats, this has a massive impact on all creators. That is what big names of YouTube such as PewDiePie or Kelly Missesvlog experienced in the past months. And they do, of course, use their reach to massively complain. How can you produce for a platform and make a living with a platform that can shift the focus at any time? Can the dependency on Facebook, Snapchat, and Google be reduced? What happens if all of a sudden 20, 30, or even 40 % of the reach breaks away? How many producers will be affected who then have to look for new jobs? How transparently are the platforms handling their decisions?

Subsequent to the keynote by Bertram Gugel, Daniel Fiene will have a discussion with the other participants regarding the impact of such changes on creators, marketers, and even on the platforms themselves.
