Während die FIFA-Spielreihe sicherlich das für Außenstehende zugänglichste Spiel ist, ziehen eher League of Legends oder DOTA weltweit die größten Massen. Wie funktioniert eSport? In 2016, 85 million dollars in prize money were distributed to eSports teams and players. Great tournaments are filling halls and stadiums. Leagues and players are enjoying global popularity. Where does the sport stand? How does the industry work? Who are the key players?

eSports might be the first sport to directly start with a global league. In Germany, new structures are emerging to this end, from clubs to events. FC Schalke 04 and VfL Wolfsburg have their own eSports teams, other established clubs will follow. While the FIFA series is surely the most accessible game for outsiders, League of Legends or DOTA are pulling the masses world-wide. How do eSports work? What games are played?
