Rasmus Kleis Nielsen is Director of Research at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford and serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Press/Politics. His work focuses on changes in the news media, on political communication, and the role of digital technologies in both. He has done extensive research on journalism, American politics, and various forms of activism, and a significant amount of comparative work in Western Europe and beyond. His book Ground Wars: Personalized Communication in Political Campaigns won the 2014 Doris Graber Award, given by the American Political Science Association for ‘the best book published on political communication in the last ten years.’ Other books include The Changing Business of Journalism and its Implications for Democracy, Political Journalism in Transition: Western Europe in a Comparative Perspective, Local Journalism: The Decline of Newspapers and the Rise of Digital Media. He is a co-editor of the annual Reuters Institute Digital News Report. His work has been covered by a range of news media including the BBC, the Economist, the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Helsingin Sanomat, the Indian Express, L’Espresso, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Vox, and many others. He is a frequent speaker at both academic and industry conferences all over the world.
